هرم أوناس يقع في منطقة أهرامات سقارة، وهو الهرم الذي بناه أوناس آخر ملوك الأسرة الخامسة، وكان يعرف حينها بـ أماكن أوناس الجميلة، إلا أنه الآن خراب ويبدو كتلّة صغيرة لا كهرم ملكي.

كانت النصوص التي تغطي جدران غرف الدفن داخل الهرم، هي أول اكتشاف لنصوص الأهرام. وفي غرفة الدفن نفسها، عثر على بقايا مومياء، بما في ذلك الجمجمة والذراع الأيمن والساق، ولكن غير معروف إن كانت هذه البقايا خاصة بأوناس أم لا؟. إلى الشمال الشرقي من الهرم، هناك مصطبة تحتوي على قبور قرينات الملك.

يعتقد أنه في نقوش هرم أوناس داخل غرفة الدفن، هناك بعض الكتابات بلهجة سامية، مكتوبة بأحرف مصرية قديمة، والتي تعد أقدم دليل على وجود لغة سامية مكتوبة.

أشار الدكتور خالد العنانى إلى أن افتتاح هرم "أوناس" والمقابر الثلاثة اليوم هو ثمار للتعاون المشترك بين وزارة الآثار والبعثات الأثرية المصرية والأجنبية العاملة فى جمهورية مصر العربية، لافتاً إلى أن المرحلة القادمة ستشهد تعزيز سبل التعاون فيما بينهم فى إطار الضوابط والمواثيق الدولية والقيم العلمية والأثرية والأخلاقية المعمول بها بما يضمن تحقيق النفع الأكبر للطرفين.

وأوضح الدكتور خالد العنانى أن هذه الافتتاحات تأتى فى إطار الخطة التى تتبعها الوزارة لفتح مزارات أثرية جديدة لتنشيط حركة السياحة المحلية والعالمية الوافدة إلى مصر والترويج لها، الأمر الذى يعد خطوة نحو استعادة مصر مكانتها العالمية بين الدول كقبلة للسائحين، ومن أمام هرم أوناس سيشارك وزير الآثار ومجموعة من الأثريين المصريين مع رؤوساء المعاهد الأثرية الأجنبية فى مصر .

The Pyramid Complex of Unas is located in the pyramid field at Saqqara, near Cairo in Egypt. It was built for pharaoh Unas, the ninth and final king of the Fifth Dynasty in the mid 24th century BC. Its ancient name, Nefer Isut Unas, means "Beautiful are the places of Unas". Originally reaching 43 metres (141 ft) high with a square base of 58 by 58 metres (190 ft × 190 ft), the pyramid is now completely ruined.

The pyramid, when it was complete stood about 62 ft (18.5 m). The core of the pyramid was loose blocks and rubble and the casing was of limestone. Today it looks like a pile of dirt and rubble, especially from the east side. Although the outside of the pyramid is in ruin, the inside is still sound. You may enter the pyramid from the north side. Trying to block the way, are three huge slabs of granite. Once inside the chamber, you will find the Pyramid Texts that were intended to help the pharaoh's soul in the afterworld. They were to help the soul find Re, the sun god.

Greco-Roman Fayoum mummy discovered

Cairo: A Russian archaeological team has discovered a well-preserved mummy from the Greco-Roman period in a wooden coffin south of Cairo, Egypt´s antiquities ministry said Tuesday.

The discovery was made near New Fayoum city, about 80 kilometres (50 miles) south of the Egyptian capital, the ministry said in a statement.

The team "found inside the coffin a well-preserved mummy, wrapped in linen, with its face covered by a human mask with drawings in blue and gold," it said.

While mummification is mostly associated with ancient Egypt, the practice continued into the Greco-Roman era.

The Russian team made its discovery near a monastery in the village of Qalamshah.

"The expedition carried out an initial restoration of the coffin and the mummy, as the coffin was found in a bad condition," the ministry said, citing the minister´s assistant Mohamed Abdel Lateef.

The statement did not say when the discovery was made.

"The cover is broken and the base has several cracks, and it doesn´t have an inscription on it," it added, citing Abdel Lateef.

The Russian mission has been operating for seven years in the area, which has Islamic and Coptic monuments as well as others from the Greco-Roman period (330 BC-670 AD).

The Russian mission, which is affiliated with the Russian Institute for Oriental Studies, has been working in the area for approximately seven years.

The archaeological area consists of two parts. The first section houses the ruins of a church and a monastery, while the second consists of a cemetery dating back to various periods, including the Greco-Roman era and the early Coptic period.
